ENROLLMENT TO THE SCHOOL ABROAD

visit_interviewTo beadmitted to a good schools abroad, the student has to pass entrance tests (usually language and math) and to enter last 2 years of high school — tests at subjects that student's going to study.

In addition the school requires to an interview with the student. For admission to British schools or schools in remote countries overseas interview is conducted by Skype. For admission to almost all the schools of the continent (especially European ones) — student is asked to come to school for tests and interviews. But even if a school visit is not compulsory, I highly recommend to go and do so, to stay with the school for 1-2 days, take the so-called "school tester" — this will help future students to understand if he wants to go to that school and school to see what the student is like.

Many schools have "open day" and encourage  new students to visit the school in that times. Although here there are two sides: the student won't get enough attention and interview is shorter but, on the other hand, you can learn more during various meetings with students and staff of the school and interview has less stress.

But if you have applied to the school and  invited to do tests and interview — how to make a good impression and get to the school of your dream.

Let's start with the fact that success does not happen without desire. Not the parents or the Agency, only the student himself should know why he wants to be admitted to this school. Half of the success would be his current academic performance and test results, the second half is the interview.

WHAT TO PAY ATTENTION TO DURING THE INTERVIEW.

- First and foremost is the motivation of the student and understanding what he wants  to learn.

- Does the student know where he will go next, what he wants to do in his life and how the school can help to achieve this. You definitely need to see a list of subjects offered by the school and be prepared to say which ones are preferable and you would conside as a fallback, especially if applying  late and some subjects may not be available any longer. You need to explain the choice for each subject based on it is good for admission to the University of your choice and to show that you have good interest in the subject.

- How the student is familiarized with the school — even during a familiarization tour of the school and conversation with the staff you have to ask the right questions. With intentions to study science, it would be good to ask to see the science lab and ask them to tell you how often students do experiments and researchs. If the intention is to study art then ask to see works of the students of the school. Be sure to ask to speak with teachers in the subjects that you are going to study. Ask them how many contact hours of lessons are  per week, which topics are studied.

- How new student would be able to fit in the school life. You have to look, what after-class activities each school offers and in which you would like to participate. In the case of admission to the IB program, see what kind of service classes offered at school and be prepared to describe positively in which you want to participate and why. Answer that a participation in this service will help you with admission to the University is not desirable, as the service is helping other people.

- Questions on previous studies and academic achievement. It is necessary not only to tell you what I learned before and that was interesting, but to explain why some subjects may have lower performance. The answer that the teacher teaches were bad or uninteresting material is nor tight because a motivated student will try to find the knowledge himself. Better to say what had distracted you and that this subject is also interested and you really want to catch up.

Don't forget that current studends are wearing school uniform so you need wear business suite during your visit.

Wish you all successful interview and admission to the chosen school.
