WHAT MAKES SUTTON PARK SCHOOL SPECIAL
03.10.172286
Sutton Park is one of the few schools where I would recommend international students to live with a host family rather than residency. Since the school is located in the exclusive residential area of Saton Park (a small isthmus that separates mainland Dublin from the Howes Peninsula), the few international students of the school have an amazing opportunity to live in prestigious houses located on the seashore, in families that cooperate with this particular school.
(I wrote this article a couple of years ago. Since the fall of 2016, the school has closed the residence and all foreign students have moved to live with their host families. The reason for this was the change of the director, who retired this year. The school's residence was located in the director's house, where 25 places were allocated for students).
STUDY AT SUTTON PARK SCHOOL
Sutton Park is a large and modern school specializing in the sciences: physics, chemistry, biology, and mathematics. Pupils of the school annually form several teams that take part in the prestigious All-Irish Olympiads, where they win prizes and represent the country at international scientific Olympiads.
100% of school graduates who graduate from the Leaving Certificat program go to universities in Ireland, the UK, and other countries. Since the school is very strong in the sciences, many graduates go to medical and other scientific universities.
THE ROLE OF THE PARENT COMMITTEE IN THE LIFE OF THE SCHOOL
As with all Irish schools, Sutton Park has a very strong parent committee influence. In order for the parents of new students to be able to quickly get to know the life of the school and integrate into the parental community, the school has an integration group for parents, the Family Integration Group (FIG). FIG contacts parents of new students well before the start of the school year to help the family with any questions, either by correspondence or by telephone.
Once a new student starts at school, there are many networking events and meetings for parents (both Irish and international students).
ACCOMMODATION ON THE CAMPUS
There is a small residence for international students on the territory of the school, accepting only 25 people. Bright and comfortable rooms for 2-4 people with facilities in the room, a large seating area, a shared kitchen. Usually first-year students try to settle in the residence. But, starting to study at school, all children very quickly understand that when living in a family they have more freedom and comfort, and ask the school to choose accommodation for them with a host family.
My general impression of the school is that it is a very cozy school, a comfortable place for serious academic work.
