I'm always looking for international schools in Europe to offer more choice of quality education for my clients. During the conference in Berlin I met representatives of international school from Italy which has started to teach International Baccalaureate program this year. It´s rare to find an international school in Italy and I decided to find out more about the school Gentium Schola Opitergium. We talked about the features of study in Italy and the opportunities that GSO offers to it´s students.
R: We are a young school, opened in September 2017. GSO is a network of international schools with the same views on educational process. 60% of our students are foreigners and the remaining 40% are Italian students. International school of talent – it's about us. The proximity of Venice, masterpieces of world art adds prestige to this school. For our foreign students we offer accommodation in a residence, which is the only prerequisite to get visa for studying in Italian school. Our students live in comfort in the new single rooms with private bathrooms.
L: What academic programs offers GSO?
R: this year we started to teach the International Baccalaureate program in 11th and 12th grade. We believe that this program is best suit for high school students. We currently have 8 students in the class in IB, two of them are Italians. There is a program of preparation for IB in grade 10, but it is only for Italians. Next year we plan to open iGCSE in the 9th and 10th grade. Ready to accept foreign pupils from the age of 15 and plan to recruit about 100 students for iGCSE.
L: Your school is located so close to Venice, probably you have arts programs?
R: You are right, we have programs in art, music, singing, there is drama club and a theater for 400 spectators. That is why we call our school the International school of talents, and each IB activity helps to develop the talents of our students. If we talk about art programs, we strive to ensure that our students paint along with the masters to learn from them how to work. Our children have been studying even the mosaic, due to the region where the school is located. We believe that the modern model of education lies in education, associated with regional traditions. So our IB program with the typical Italian charm and characteristic of this region's traditions in art.
L: Very interesting approach, not every school relates local traditions to education. How about summer programs in the GSO?
