Education in the largest boarding school in the UK - Millfiled

Millfield School  is the biggest co-educational boarding school in UK. You will not find this school on the top of ranking pages. At the same time  it's so popular that you would need to apply to the school for the year ahead. That's despite the fact that high school  alone has more than 1,200 students. During the ICEF conference in Berlin the representative of Millfield School explained me the lackluster performance in the ratings and why the school is so popular among British and international students. 

Senior School and Junior School

The school is divided into two campuses - senior campus (campus Street) and the elementary school (campus Glastonbury) which are located in different towns. High school starts from 13 years and has 1250 students. In elementary school there are more than 500 children. Only 20% of students are foreigners and the rest are British students. 

Both campuses are modern with good infrastructure. In an interview with a representative of the school he mentioned Olympic team from Russia which used the school pool for training, so the quality of sports facilities are not in doubt. There is a 50-metre pool, a Golf course and  spor sections of swimming, tennis and rugby. In my experience, sports at Millfield is an integral part of the school. In our conversation a representative of the school referred pupils who play Rugby at the national level. In addition, students take prize-winning places at the Olympics, win gold medals. So we can safely say that Millfield is preparing it's students for their Olympic career.

About the school of philosophy

High sports performance is not accidental. School philosophy began with the first Director of Millfield. He was a sportsman, played cricket and believed that every child is talented. Perhaps the child is good in science or outstanding athlete or musician. Not all children can Shine in their studies – this idea lies in the concept of education in Millfield.

Returning to the question of school rankings, Millfield is not a school with high academic performance. As I was explained, every student is successful in the field that he has chosen himself or with helped od the staff during his studies in Millfield. Someone students after graduating from school go to Hollywood, as they discovered abilities of talented actors or Directors while studying drama at school. This is the value of Millfield School.

About the peculiarities of admission in Millfield

The school is popular with British students. Parents of Millfield students are often British celebrities, for example, mentioned during interview Pierce Brosnan who flewto meet child n his helicopter. No wonder you need to fight to get a place. Although, as said a representative of the school, Millfield is not particularly selective, the difficulty in entering the school is insufficient ammont of places for all applicants. To be admitted to Millfield,  students don't particularry ned to have the best grades, motivation of the student,is very important, his interest shown at the interview. The school alos want to see child's parents. Therefore, it is desirable that the children visit the school with the family for interview. Interviews are held during the summer, so families can bring a child to the school for summer program and also pass an interview. To school recommends to apply the year prior to the planned admission.

The school is not aimed for high academic results but rather helps each child find his interests in life. That is why the school is not worried about any ratings. Families send their children to  Millfield  for comfortable learning environment and opportunity to develop their hobbies: sports, acting, music, art, which can be developed into a profession. I would recommend Millfield School for children who play sports or are addicted to art, drama. In this school children will get a great education without having to give up thier favorite hobby.
