From time to time I receive requests for a private school in California with good academic results. Interest in this state on the US West coast caused by several factors. First, Los Angeles is attracting because of Hollywood, which, in parents mind, gives great opportunities for talented children. Second, the climate: staying and studying in California is comfortable year-round. Based on this, I was looking for schools in Los Angeles. I met a representative of one of the best private schools in California, which is located in Los Angels, at a conference in Frankfurt.
Read my interview with a representative of Ribet Academy:
L: Your school immediately has an advantage being location in the heart of Los Angeles. Describe the campus Ribet Academy.
R: Yes, we are in the heart of the city and 40 minutes from world famous Hollywood. The campus occupies 9 acres, which is now small for the city school. The main six-story building of the campus accommodates students of elementary, middle, and high school. We also have a separate building, which is the residence for foreign students. At the school, we have great scientific laboratories, including the largest laboratory of marine biology lab in southern California. Such infrastructure helps to keep our school in a championship in the Sciences, and children receive prize-winning places at competitions in the state.
L: What sport infrastructure do you have on campus?
R: At Ribet Academy we offer many sports clubs. On campus there is a gym, football field, dance Studio and 99-seat theater, indoor and outdoor basketball court, gym. Children can sign to any sport they like.
L: You mentioned the theater, you probably have a program in acting? Many of my clients consider Los Angeles solely because of the opportunity to learn and build a career as an actor. Does Ribet Academy provides such opportunities?
R: Yes, we have drama, which is optional for students of middle and high school. Every year members of the drama group prepares two shows: dramatic play and a musical. As for the art, at Ribet Academy this program taught at a high level. 100% of our graduates who choose Art get the place at universities of the arts of their first choice. This figure speaks volumes! On campus, there are separate Art studios for different classes.
L: Which subjects are strong your school besides art?
R: As I said, we specialize on the Sciences and Mathematics. Our students regularly participate in National competitions, making the school among the top 10 based on the results of Olympiads in this subjects in the United States. Therefore, our graduates go Ivy League universities and other Top ranked univerisies in America. Our graduates continue their education at Berkeley, Stanford, the universities of California and other Universities in USA.
L: How many subjects do you offer on Advanced Placement program?
R: We have 18 AP courses, including art, history, mathematics, physics, chemistry. For those who want to try studying at Ribet Academy we offer trial for minimum of 1 semester.
L: Who are your students? Is there a Russian-speaking children in the school?
R: We operate as day school for students from Los Angeles and foreign students can live in residence or with host families. The residence is home to 46 students ranging from the age of 15 upwards. Among the foreigners, there are Russian and Ukrainian students, 6 Russian speaking students in total.
L: What advice would you give to students who want to go to Ribet Academy?
R: we have a great summer program for 5 weeks from June to July. Previously, it was offered only to American students, but last year we started to invite international students. It includes English and some other subjects that can cause problems for foreign students during study abroad: U.S. history, math, etc. are included to the program. This camp will help prepare foreign students for the upcoming year with American school.
I will recommend this school to families who are considering schools in the United States for further study at American universities, especially those who wants to study sciences, mathematics and art.
