What to do in quarantine? Never stop learning!

Despite the world being in turmoil, life must go on!
The current CoVID 19 pandemic does not only affect governments around the world but every one of us. We hope that the measures launched by the governments last week throughout Europe to curb the number of new infections will have the desired effect by the middle of April.
Many private schools have found a way of dealing with this unprecedented crisis.
Currently, all pupils are provided with learning materials digitally, take online lessons and are individually accompanied by their teachers.
In view of the future, which is important not only for you, your children, but schools’ staff, the majority of schools have decided the following:
Easter holidays:
All pupils currently on schools site who are not finally picked up by their parents during the Easter holidays or who are unable to travel home will remain at their traditional campuses. Stays with school friends already in progress must be continued until 19th April.
The end of the Easter holidays:
Nobody can say how the situation will develop until April 19th and although we assume that the state government of each individual country will correct its previous statements and school operations will be resumed after the Easter holidays.
Cancellation of A-levels, GCSEs, Abitur and IB exams:
Some A2 candidates will be feeling deflated and concerned about the decision to cancel exams, worrying about what this means for them. The response for that is clear: their grades have not yet been decided and the criteria for setting their grades have not yet been set. So, the work that they are doing now becomes the most relevant evidence that they have of their ability to achieve the highest grades. They must continue to work in order to produce the best work possible because, when the criteria are set, the students get the grades they deserve.
After that, they have an opportunity. Universities will be in new territory as they agree and allocate places. What will your child be doing to ensure that they place themselves in the strongest position possible? This could mean individual research, online courses or even online qualifications. It could mean thinking creatively or even entrepreneurially in response to this crisis and demonstrating their true character, as a result.
GCSEs and IGCSEs are canceled. What is not yet confirmed, is how grades will be allocated. Candidates must, therefore, work hard to ensure that the work they are doing now counts as evidence of the grade that they deserve. When schools understand the criteria, they will work hard to ensure that students receive the grade that they deserve. GCSEs and IGCSE candidates then will turn their attention to preparing for A-Levels and teachers will be guiding them online, as they would be if in school, during term time in order to put them in a strong position.
So far the Abitur examinations have been postponed to a later date, the IB examinations in May 2020 have been canceled.
Summer camps and language schools:
All schools want to help families to continue to make decisions for the summer and make it easier to make a risk free booking. Many airlines are offering people the chance to book and then be able to cancel or change their bookings. Seeing how the situation in Asia has improved now and the epicenter is now Europe we do hope that things will improve after a couple of months.
What is a risk-free booking?
- Book now and pay nothing until one month before your course.
- Pay full fees one month before your course. You will save bank charges by making one payment nearer to the course.
- No initial payment will be due on booking giving you a chance to change your mind.
- Once you have paid your fees our normal terms and conditions apply.
- For visa students, schools can issue a visa letter stating that full fees are due one month before their course. If some students have paid already a deposit to schools will indicate this in the visa support letter.
Online Language courses:
Based on the information we have at this time, it seems that it will not be possible for people to travel for a while. Reacting very fast to the current developments in regards to COVID-19, many schools had to stop all on-campus lessons and some have already replaced them with online lessons, which they are going to continue even after the situation changes back to normal.
Schools are using a highly modern virtual classroom in which you can find all functions relevant for the lessons. Amongst others: whiteboard, file upload and screen sharing. As the teacher is supporting students live, they can always turn to him for help!
To participate in online classes, students solely need a laptop/computer, a tablet or a smartphone. A headset is not absolutely necessary.
