Elite secondary education at the school of St.Columba's.
St.Columba's College in Ireland is one of the most impressive schools I have ever seen.
Founded in 1843 by Archbishop Ireland by William Siwela who believed that gifted children should learn in excellent conditions. Now the school occupies beautiful and extensive grounds of 140 acres in the half-hour drive from Dublin city center and the airport.
St.Columba's College - the highest-rated school in Ireland:
- the average score of graduates of the school in the last 5 years is 452 points Leaving Certificate (Irish diploma of leaving school);
- 452 Leaving Certificate points equal to AAA 'A' levels.
- In 2014, a third of the school's graduates received 500 or more points, while the remaining two-thirds of the graduates received more than 400 points.
In 2014, the school had 292 students, of whom 242 lived in a boarding school, 60% were Irish students and 40% were foreign students. The school offers mixed education for middle and high school students (boys and girls 11-18 years old).
How to get to St.Columba's College
The school is very selective, difficult to get to, looking for students not only with good academic performance but from good families. Compulsory school attendance for interview.
Basically, the school accepts students aged 11-12 years, but the school also considers students in high school in Form IV (the Transition Year) or Form V (the first year of the 2-year Leaving Certificate program).
Places in the school are confirmed from September to December, so foreign students who want to try to enroll in St. Columba's need to start contacting the school as early as possible in order to have time to collect all the documents required for admission, schedule an interview, open a visa and visit the school long before the end of the distribution of seats.
Living conditions at the school:7 residences - 4 for boys and 3 for girls, more historical or modern, but almost all of the same structure. A student, getting into one house, lives in it until graduation - from 11 to 18 years old. Even day students have their own private study room.
What the students of the school say: They are very proud of their place in the school.
50% of St. Columba’s graduates go to the top-rated British universities, about 25% to Trinity College Dublin, the rest to various universities in the world.
Sports at St. Columba’s school:golf (own golf club), swimming, rugby, tennis, cricket, field hockey, volleyball, basketball, badminton, fitness, aerobics. The school's sports facilities are some of the best in Ireland.
Club activities:music, drawing, drama, design
