Student opinion about studying at American Hebrew Academy
03.10.171099
Alice is a 12th grade graduate student at the American Hebrew Academy. This semester, she devotes a lot of time to her admission to the university. Her application has already been approved by one of the Boston universities, where she dreamed of going. Alice is still waiting for answers from the rest of the American universities to which she applied, but most likely she will study in Boston.
Here's what Alice shared about her experience at the American Hebrew Academy.
It all happened very spontaneously. My friend Ira came to Moscow for the winter holidays from the American Hebrew Academy. She was all beaming with happiness, it seemed that she was not in America, but flew to the moon and back. I became interested in this school because, according to Ira, her studying was an unforgettable experience. You learn to live independently, meet people from all over the world, and also learn Jewish traditions. I sent an application and hoped that it will work out. And it worked! And now I study with Ira at the best school.
In our school we live as one big family. Not only students but also teachers. This is a special warm atmosphere that helps when you are away from home.
At this school, we place great emphasis on Jewish traditions. Since American Hebrew Academy is international and many students come from families with different traditions, the school tries to make everyone feel comfortable. Children from different parts of the world study with me: Mexico, Hungary, Brazil, Israel, Canada, Colombia, etc.
During prayers, there are three main minyan to choose from: Orthodox, Reform, and Conservative. Alternative activities are often offered, such as studying the weekly parasha or Hasidic niguns.
Particular attention is paid to the study of Jewish history and topics related to Israel.
At the moment I am working with Hubbad, who collaborates with our school. Also at school, the concept of Tikun Olam, the repair of the world, is very important. We make this world a better place. We were taught that one person cannot save the whole world, but if everyone does at least a little bit of good deeds, we will certainly achieve success. Each student must complete a minimum of 18 hours of work per year. I work with the animals from the shelter, my friends work with the children and some of them help to cook.
My roommate is Mexican and she is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met in my life. I never would have thought that our cultures with her one could be so similar. We understand each other perfectly.
Such relationships last for a long time. On Thanksgiving Day, my friends and I were invited to Mexico to the guys who studied with us for a year and returned home. It was the best vacation of my life. It was a great pleasure to meet my old friends again and remember how much fun our school days were.
Our campus is, of course, without any exaggeration, ideal! But the climate ... the climate in Greensboro is very moody. In winter, it can be plus twenty degrees, and the next day it can be snowing, and to such an extent that the school will be closed. And then the fun begins ... we spend all day outside, jumping, running, playing snowballs and building a snowman. When the campus is covered with snow, it becomes even more beautiful, my favorite thing is to take a camera and find beautiful places in our school.
I am extremely glad that I am staying to study in America, since I have already been accepted to one university near Boston.
