Some of my clients who are interested in education abroad are wondering whether they should send their children to boarding school. I personally consult parents with children in secondary education abroad and the question "Why send child to boarding school?" we stipulate in the first place.
With misconceptions about what a boarding school is parents may get incomplete picture of the upcoming studies. Parents who used to monitor the homework of their children or to take them to the sports sections every day afraid that the child will stop studying and lose incentive to attend clubs. Some common fear is the language barrier, the child's lack of independence and farewell to a familiar environment. But all these fears are easily dispelled when I talk to families during consultation on secondary schools abroad.
A few of my observations about the boarding school which will dispel the doubts of parents on education abroad:
- The boarding school acts as a closed society of teachers, professors and school staff where each child is treated as an individual and independent personality. At the same time, teachers and school staff are fully responsible for your baby's health in the walls of the school. The child does not leave the territory without notifying school personnel. The latter will release him only if they have your written approval.
- Studying in private schools is a unique process and not like boring lessons at home. Children find themselves here. Very often I'm watching kids leaving to studies with no idea of their future profession, or vaguely understand what they want to do at University. In the group of their peers and under supervision of their curators the children find subjects that they like to learn and receive support in developing their skills in and outside of school.
- I can say that your child will sign in the school sports team as soon as he sees the sports infrastructure of the school. Active extracurricular life is valued less than academic performance in the classroom. In my experience, a lot of students came to school due to their sporting achievements and the school is glad they accept students into their ranks and encouraged their athletic feats.
- When visiting foreign countries and see schools I never cease to be amazed of their unique campuses, but one thing unites all boarding schools – these are students who are inspired to learn and strive to show good results. And also there are teachers who know all achievements and shortcomings of their students, open to dialogue and assistance. No language or any other barrier will arise between students and teacher when the child asks him for help or advice.
- I communicate with the children one to one, give them advice before the interview to school and exams, so I know my customers well. When six months later I meet with the new pupil of boarding school for interviews and fresh impressions I see a totally different kid then six months ago. Children grow, gain confidence and literally glowing. And it's just that I have time to notice during the short time of the interview, family notice these changes a lot more.
Why send child to boarding school? That the child has gain new skills and develop his talents to get the necessary knowledge from the best teachers and share his thoughts with peers from all over the world. And the surrounding atmosphere in the school only increases his desire to grow and reach new heights.
Every child is unique, and I can't say with certainty at 100% that your child will return the same as any other of my students previous years. Each student adapts in their own way and most importantly different schools have different impacts on the formation of the child. When you find the answers to your question "Why should I send my child to boarding school?", then you will have a task of considerable difficulty, namely "How to choose a school for my child?". The closer you will be to get acquainted with secondary education abroad, the more questions you ask. I wish you to solve these and other tasks and if you still have questions I am ready to conduct personal consultation.
